Jerome “Bruce” Nevins, Jr. of Leesburg, Florida, was born on October 29, 1943, in Wilmette, Illinois, to Jerome Bruce Nevins, Sr. and Doris Swanson Nevins. He was their only child. He grew up in rural Laporte, Indiana, where he found his lifelong love of the outdoors. He passed away on August 2, 2024, at the age of 80 in Leesburg, Florida, after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by Evelyn Marsh Nevins, his wife of 55 years and two deeply loved daughters. Evelyn Joyce Hughes who lives in Holiday, Texas, with her husband Michael Hughes, and children Sarah Beth Hughes, Ian Hughes, and Evan Hughes. Mary Lynn Sauceda lives in Leesburg, Florida, with her husband Philip Sauceda and sons, Joshua Mills and Phelix Sauceda. Her daughter, Jennifer Mills, lives in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Bruce received his Bachelor’s Degree and 2 Master’s Degrees from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, in geography and earth science. He touched the lives of many students during his teaching career in Knox, Laporte, and Alexandria, Indiana, Ancilla College in Donaldson, Indiana, Flour Bluff Junior High in Corpus Christi, Texas, London I.S.D, Corpus Christi, Texas, Aransas Pass ISD, Aransas Pass, Texas, Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Eustis Middle School, Eustis, Florida.

There will be a celebration of life held November 9 at the Silver Lake Community Church from 11to 1 when his northern friends and neighbors return to Florida. He will be buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox, Indiana.

The family would like to thank the caregivers on the 5th floor of Waterman Hospital for their wonderful care and to everyone at Cornerstone Hospice for their compassionate care. Thanks, too, for the many prayers, calls, cards, texts, and visits from our friends and neighbors. Bruce was so touched when Danny Blocker, his student from 41 years ago at London School and Jerry Rose from Indiana, a student from his first class in Knox came to see him. There is not greater honor/reward to a teacher than to know he made a difference in the lives of his students. As Bruce would say, “Carry on!”

Thomas Michael Meyer

June 30, 1962  -  December 30,

Thomas Michael Meyer went home to Jesus on December 30th, 2023 at the age of 61.

Thomas was born to Albert and Velma Meyer on June 30th, 1962 in Ontario, Canada, where he lived for many years before moving to California with his brother Jim when he was 18 years old.

During his time in California, he met his wife Carol, who he married in August of 1987, and went on to be father to Brian Yanagisako, Michael and Nathan Meyer. As well as his own kids, he was father to many, including the kids' childhood best friend, Kevin Torres. He was also fortunate to welcome grandkids Brianna and Jaden, as well as a great granddaughter Savaeah.

Whether on water or land, Thomas lived life to the fullest. He was an avid water-skier as many in his family are. He was a dedicated and successful businessman in the coffee industry, being self-employed almost his whole life. He loved attending sporting events of all kinds with his family, especially NASCAR and college football, always cheering on Michigan. But more important to him than his desires in the world, was showing up for the people around him. He never missed events, phone calls, facetimes, and never turned down an opportunity to see the people he loved.

In addition to being a dedicated father and friend to many, later in his life he was also a loving partner of Trisha Preece. Together they loved to travel in their van, "Fancy", across the United States to visit family and friends. Throughout his entire life, he was a bright soul who commanded the room with his vibrant smile and his contagious laughter.

Thomas joins his parents, Albert and Velma, his wife Carol, and his sister Nancy in Heaven. He is survived by his children, Brian, Michael, Nathan and his daughter-in-law Breann, Kevin, his grandchildren, Brianna and Jaden, his great granddaughter, Savaeah, and his partner, Trisha.

Eileen Marie Tracht Smith was born on January 27, 1931 and passed away peacefully here at home on July 3rd, 2016, surrounded by family.  She is survived by her two sons Mike Smith of Cadillac, Michigan, and Larry Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as her daughter Beth Phillips of Leesburg.  She and my father spent many happy years living on Island Drive surrounded by wonderful friends and neighbors.  With the blessing of authorities, their ashes will be scattered on the Harris Chain of Lakes sometime in the future.  They eloped when Eileen was a junior in high school, and shared all things together, including motorcycle riding, snowmobile adventures, boating, and flying airplanes – they both had pilot licenses before the move to Florida.  They loved living on the lake and all that it brought them.  We are all grateful for the support and kindness of her neighbors and friends at Western Shores.
